We often want to help others and when we see person who is sad or depressed, we feel urge to comfort them, because that's how human beings work. Now, we all had some friends who got depressed more or less but the question here is, can they be so depressed that their depression affects you in a way so you became depressed as well? Can such thing even occur?

Being depressed and having depression are two things. A bad weather can make you depressed, but you don't get depression because the weather is bad. When you are with a person suffering from depression, you certainly become depressed. But that is a temporary feelings

When people that care about you express depression tendencies without end, it is just a matter of time before you get depressed too. A friend of mine lived with me. Man was deeply depressed. Used to play suicidal songs every night. I didn't know when the depression started setting into me. I had to leave him alone for some time to gain back my sanity.

How is that possible? It is not like a communicable sickness. But a depressed person can change the atmosphere and affect the mood of other people around.

I had a boyfriend that used to have serious depression. I always felt sad whenever I visited him and I saw him depressed. I always ended up leaving his place in tears. I tried to take him out of depression for months and I couldn't. I had to run for my dear life.
