Depression during the holidays

The holidays are fast approaching and I know many, like myself, who are looking forward to it. But there are some who struggle with the holidays as it may bring up bad memories or it may not be their best time of year. Do you have any stigma surrounding a holiday? Maybe a family death happened around a holiday or something bad happened to you.

I thankfully don't have anything that comes to mind, but I imagine there are people who struggle with certain things.

Depression during the holidays is more common than many admit. The season often brings pressure to feel joyful, reconnect, or meet family expectations, which can deepen loneliness or highlight personal losses. Financial stress, social comparison, or painful memories can make things worse. Even people who usually cope well might feel emotionally drained by the constant noise and busyness. The best approach is to keep routines steady, set realistic expectations, and reach out, whether to friends, support groups, or professionals. Sometimes just admitting that you’re struggling instead of forcing cheerfulness can bring relief and help you connect more authentically with others.

It’s common for people to feel uneasy or anxious around holidays tied to painful memories, like a family loss or personal trauma. I do feel it too. I don’t think you should worry, it is temporary
