Gaming is classified as an addiction in 2018.

Symptoms include:

- impaired control over gaming (frequency, intensity, duration)
- increased priority given to gaming
- continuation or escalation of gaming despite negative consequences

These are the most known and basic parts of gamming addiction and I know this because I have this addiction. However, I am managing to reduce time I spend on games more and more.

Gaming can become an addiction if it negatively impacts daily life, relationships, or responsibilities. The World Health Organization classifies "gaming disorder" as a mental health condition when gaming takes priority over other activities and causes distress. It's important to maintain balance and set limits to avoid it becoming harmful.

It's great you're reducing gaming time. Stay consistent, set goals, and find healthier hobbies. Seek support if needed. You've got this!

I had a friend who was addicted to playing League of Legends. This was 10 years ago, she was 22 at the time and didn't have a job. She wouldn't properly take care of herself either, she would wake up and play LoL all day. There were times she didn't want to hang out when I came over to her house, but her mother insisted that I come in and hang out anyways. Thankfully she's overcome her addiction and she's got a job now.

If you are overdoing it, it is certainly an addiction. For instance, if you are missing your work or school because you want to game, that can be classified as an addition. However, moderate amount of gaming can be good as it can help reduce your stress levels. Sadly, gaming is becoming an addiction in Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

When I was a kid, I had that problem. I would spend hours on Atari trying to beat Pitfall Harry, lol. There was this one level I could never master for the longest time.
