Have you ever switched therapists?

I was seeing a regular M.D. for many years, even though he was mostly treating my psychiatric symptoms.
It was kind of funny, I’d go in there thinking I had some kind of serious illness or I was dying of something, and it always came down to being something like anxiety, OCD, mind games, etc.
I found a psychiatrist after him because he kept suggesting I needed the “right” kind of doctor, never really knew what he meant.
Until I found my psychiatrist. Haha!
I have stayed with him ever since, but still very grateful for the family doc that had the patience to deal with a patient with no real “physical problems” even though it seemed like they were.

It's great that your family doctor was supportive. Finding the right psychiatrist must have been a huge relief.

I've never seen one and can't imagine changing that. Why would I want to confide in someone who doesn't give a damn? They are solely listening to you because they are making money from every one of your sessions.

I was very lucky. I found him by doing a simple Google search. There were SO MANY to choose from, but I just went with my gut. 11 years later, still with him.

Actually, mine didn’t charge me for the whole first year. He saw me trying to pay in cash and just kept telling me to put my money away, saying things like, “This one’s on me” or “let’s wait till your insurance comes through.”
It finally did. :)

I am surprised that he didn't ask for payment in another manner.;)

That’s amazing! What qualities made you trust your psychiatrist, and how has therapy helped you?

Well, when I moved on to Google Image Search, I noticed he was sitting with a dog on his lap. That was just the selling point for me. He had a kindness to his eyes, too.
I’ll just say it, I got lucky in finding him.
He has helped me a lot with acceptance, and remembering we really don’t have any control over what will happen in this life.
So worrying, overthinking, losing sleep, all a waste of time.
