How did you find out you were battling depression?

Noticing that one is having depression can be one of the most difficult thing for some people. I have been depressed before and I got to know when I began thinking too much and being unable to sleep. What about you?
 
Just general sadness and downtime, lack of motivation, and the lack of wanting to socialize gave me some hints that I was depressed.
 
Well, it became very obvious to me when life didn't mean much to me again. I was filled with sadness, anger and hate. I couldn't sleep or have any good conversation with anyone. It was more like I was grieving with no one knowing what I'm passing through.
