She does these podcasts, for some reason she always ends up in my YouTube feed even though I’ve never once clicked on any of her videos.

She was speaking with a neuroscientist and he was explaining how the brain needs to have a constant goal to keep it occupied.
Like a Golden Retriever chasing a ball.

If we don’t have a “happy goal” we are pursuing, the mind can grow bored and come up with its own problems to solve.
Meaning, it turns on you. Creating its own problems.
Could be the potential cause of anxiety, depression, even OCD.

Thoughts?

Exactly.
I’ve noticed my “default” escape has always been to reminisce over the past, even live in the past because it’s a very safe place to be. Good or bad, you already know how the story will play out, and there’s safety in that.
But lately, the future has become more appealing. So many plans and goals, if you just allow yourself some time to think about how you want your future to look. Then you’re “chasing the ball” and planning happy goals, rather than reliving the old ones, which are only memories.
