Religious Faith and Mental Disability

How might a religious faith of some sort help the disabled? Well, in the Bible, Jesus had healed many with mental disabilities. In fact, that was a big group he helped.

Personally, I am a Christian and one thing that Christianity gives me is the family atmosphere which always helps me with mental health issues. I get to church depressed. And the pastor comes to preach a message of hope and I am lifted from my depression. That's real for me.

The Bible gives many causes of depression. If those are dealt with, then there is not much or nothing left as a problem.

Are you implying that studying the Bible can make one depressed? I wouldn't accept that if that is what you are trying to imply. Even atheists have come to accept that the Bible gives hope to it's adherents. Most non Christians believe that the Bible gives unrealistic hope. The Bible is a perfect tool to keep depression away.

No, that's not what I mean at all. Following the Bible's rules keeps people from becoming depressed, because what is defined as sin is a root cause of unhappiness.

Religious faith can provide comfort, resilience, and community support for individuals with mental disabilities, reducing stress and promoting well-being. However, it may also lead to guilt, stigma, or reliance on faith over medical treatment, depending on personal beliefs and societal attitudes.

My father was suffering from clinical depression and his therapist said that he has to take medications for life long. It had already been 10 years since he was taking medicines and one day someone suggest him to try faith healing. He started praying. After a hear, he stopped taking medicines and it has been over 20 years since he has not taken antidepressant. Being religious help to tackle mental health conditions.

I can't say religious faith is the only remedy to me mentally. I also drink a lot of coffee, and my job is a physical job (I am on my feet for 8 hours a day, minus breaks).

Faith offers hope, comfort, and strength, inspiring resilience in disability.
