The Role of Antidepressants in Recovery

Antidepressants can stabilize mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Side effects vary, and effectiveness differs among individuals. Do you think medication should be long-term, or only until therapy builds coping skills?

I think it depends on the person. Some people may need to take medication for their whole life, some may need a mix of therapy and medication, while some find success with just therapy or changes to life choices. I think it comes down to what works best for you, because everyone is different in what works and doesn't work.

Antidepressants can play a key role in recovery by balancing brain chemicals that affect mood, energy, and focus. They are often combined with therapy and lifestyle changes. While not a cure, they provide stability, making healing and coping more manageable.

My father was on med for over 10 years, antidepressants controlled his conditions, but it did not cure. If he missed his medicine even a single dose, he would start getting nervous, he experienced a severe headache, it felt like it is going to burst. Antidepressant works but it can only subdue the symptoms. It will make you depended.
