Why Does Gen Z Experience 'Gift-Giving Anxiety' So Intensely?

Selecting presents triggers disproportionate stress. Is this financial pressure or fear of being judged for poor taste?

What is the most stressful gift-giving occasion you have come across as a Gen Z (or other generations)?

Gift-giving stress often comes more from fear of judgment than finances. I’ve felt that pressure to pick something meaningful. For me, the most stressful occasions were milestone birthdays where expectations are high, and the gift’s thoughtfulness can feel like a reflection of the relationship.

I think the real stress when choosing a gift for friends and loved ones is financial pressure. Close friends from the same Gen Z generation are always putting their acquaintances under pressure to get them premium gifts that would align with social media trends. Having to buy a gift with all your money is distressing for Gen Z.
