Depression in Young Girls

According Mayo Clinic, female are two times more likely to experience depression compared to males and depression can occur at any age including children and teens.

One of the reasons why young girls are more prone to depression is because of hormonal changes during the puberty stage. The female hormone Estrogen has been linked to depression. During the puberty stage this hormone is abnormally high, which causes depression.

Other causes of depression in young girls are obesity, bullying, sexual abuse, witnessing violence, academic problems, peer issues, pressure to look good on social media platforms, etc.

There are so many things that can cause depression for young girls and abuse whether it's emotionally, physically or sexually inflicted on them can push them deep down into depression and it can get nasty for them. Rape is a major pull towards it.

Depression can be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain, and young girls may be more susceptible to these imbalances due to hormonal changes during puberty. There could also be genetic factors. Depression can also run in families, and young girls with a family history of depression may be at increased risk. Stressful life events is another reason. Young girls may experience stressful life events such as the loss of a loved one, a difficult family situation, or academic pressure that can trigger depression.

I think low self-esteem, negative thought patterns, and social media use are the primary causes.

Young girls may be more susceptible to depression if they have low self-esteem or negative self-talk, which can contribute to feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.

Young girls may also develop negative thought patterns or cognitive distortions, such as black and white thinking or catastrophizing, that can contribute to feelings of depression.

Young girls may also experience depression related to social media use, as they may feel pressure to present an idealized version of themselves online or compare themselves to others.

Young girls who are bullied or socially excluded may be at increased risk for depression, as these experiences can cause feelings of shame, embarrassment, and low self-worth.

Young girls who have experienced traumatic events such as physical or sexual abuse may be at increased risk for depression.

Encouraging healthy habits such as regular exercise, a healthy diet, and sufficient sleep can also be beneficial for preventing and managing depression in young girls

It is a true fact that women are more prone to being depressed much more than men. They depend so much on their emotions to have an identity. That's why they always use emotions to respond to everything. I wish some ladies can overcome emotions so that they don't easily enter bouts of depression.

Female humans have to conform to societal expectations on sexuality and gender roles that is quite pressuring to them. And they are castigated if they fail. And that would get them to always be depressed. I think societal pressure is what is driving young ladies into depression.
