Going through custody battles, ever been through one?

Custody battles are not a fun thing to be a part of. Sometimes people break up, and when you both have a kid, than there is a chance that child's home will be broken up. Custody battles are not a fun thing to see a child go through, because they are seeing the cold truth that their parents are officially breaking up. And then they have to go through the custody battle, who gets custody, will it be shared custody, who gets weekends, etc. It's something I don't think any parents likes to do, but it's a process during divorce that is required. Unless both parties can come up with an agreement for shared custody, some custody battles don't go that way. Some get heated fast and result in one parent getting full or majority custody, especially if there was any abuse or spousal abuse involved.

Fortunately, I have not been through custody battle. I am thankful to God for that. We might not be picture perfect family but we are very much in love and support each other despite the ups and downs in life.
But yes, I have witnessed that ugly situation as front row seat for couple of very close friends. And being a counselor, I have met parents and children who are going through this mess in their lives. It's not easy at all..it is mentally and emotionally draining. And it can have traumatic effects on younger children and adolescents.
