Medication for Anxiety, Necessary or Optional?

Anti-anxiety medications can reduce symptoms quickly, but therapy addresses root causes. Some people fear dependency. Do you think medication is essential for mental health recovery, or should it be combined with therapy?

It's definitely optional because there are other things you can do aside from taking medication for anxiety. There is therapy as an option. But, you don't need either if you don't want to. Some people are perfectly capable of living a sustainable life without ever having to go to therapy or take a medication for anxiety. Of course, those options are available to anyone that needs it. Even those that have never wanted to use said options.

I think it depends on the individual. Medication can help manage severe symptoms quickly, but combining it with therapy usually provides longer-term benefits by addressing underlying issues and teaching coping strategies.
