What are some misconceptions about depression that you believe need more awareness or clarification?

Feel free to share your thoughts here.

Some people say that depression is a sign of weakness. And this is a very terrible assumption to make. When people are depressed, it is a deep medical condition that they can't control. They need help rather than judgement.

One main misconception about depression is that a lot of people believe that people are faking depression, another common misconception is that they believe you can control your depression easily.

One assumption that is wrong about depression is that one can just snap out of it if they want to. But that is not true. People that are depressed don't have their minds performing optimally and can't just snap out. They need help.

Some people often feel that depression only affects some sets of persons. How wrong they are? Anyone can get depressed. So, you shouldn't be disappointed when some particular people that you feel shouldn't fall into depression do fall into it. Get them help.

Depression isn’t just sadness; it affects thoughts, energy, and physical health. You can’t just “snap out of it,” and it’s not a sign of weakness. It doesn’t always have a clear cause, and people can hide it well. Treatment varies, including therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes, not just pills.
