Supporting a loved one who has mental health issues is never easy. It's always overwhelming. One has to learn to listen without being judgmental while also preparing them toward seeking the needed professional advice. You see how difficult it could be! How do you support someone with such issues? Share experiences and advice.

I usually listen to a loved one’s problems carefully. I just pay attention to what he or she says without making any judgements. I give advice when he or she only asks for it.

I do give them space to talk, and listen to how they're feeling, it's really helpful in itself. I offer reassurance as seeking help can feel lonely, and sometimes scary. I do Stay calm and Be patient with them ...

I have learned to just be there. Sometimes that meant sitting in silence, other times it meant gently encouraging them to seek professional help. I also had to educate myself, reading about their condition so I could better understand what they were experiencing. It helped me be more empathetic rather than reactive.

One important lesson was not to lose myself in the process. Supporting someone doesn’t mean forgetting your own needs.

You are absolutely right. I have been in this situation and it is extremely difficult to support a loved one with mental health issues.
