Are Relationship Breakdowns a Hidden Cause of Depression?

Losing trust or emotional intimacy can quietly spiral into long-term sadness. How can people separate heartbreak from actual clinical depression?

When a relationship breaks down, the people that are involved in the relationship are likely to fall into depression as an immediate response. And it being a cause of depression is not even hidden. It is expected that when a relationship fails, people would get depressed.

That’s a really important distinction. Heartbreak usually comes with waves of sadness that ease over time, while clinical depression tends to linger, affecting sleep, appetite, and motivation for weeks or months. If the emptiness feels constant and life loses color, it’s more than heartbreak, it’s time to reach out for help.

Failed relationships are a cause of depression. There are relationships that one has invested so much into. They have invested their time, or resources because they so much loved the person and envisaged "forever" with that person. The depression would be visible if such a relationship scatters. And it would be on the part of the person that had a higher stake.
