Twin studies suggest bipolar disorder has an 80% heritability rate. If one twin has it, the other likely does too. Should genetic counseling be part of mental health care?

Yes, research suggests that bipolar disorder has a genetic component. Family studies show a higher risk of developing the condition among relatives of individuals with bipolar disorder, indicating a hereditary link, although environmental factors also play a role.

Lots of stuff come from genetics, but I don't think inheritance is everything. That's why I don't support eugenics.

Well, people with a predetermined tendency toward alcohol or whatever, simply have to strongly take that into account.

Yes, there is a genetic link to bipolar disorders. Studies show that 60-80% of the risk for developing bipolar disorder is due to genetic factors.

While it is true that genetics result in most bipolar disorders, other factors like traumatic events, stress, and significant life changes can trigger episodes of mania or depression in individuals. If care is not taken, these things can lead to bipolar disorders as well. So it is possible for one person to have it while his brother is not affected.
