Social Media FOMO

Social media sparks joy and envy. Do you ever feel FOMO scrolling X, Instagram, Tiktok or other platforms? How do you cope? How do you enjoy social media without comparison. What’s your favorite platform for positivity?

I do feel FOMO sometimes scrolling social media like Instagram and TikTok. To cope, I remind myself that people share highlights, not reality. I limit screen time and focus on content that inspires me. Instagram is my favorite for positive, uplifting posts.

If you are addicted to social media, FOMO is a common phenomena. Even for those who are not addicted but use social media frequently, they might experience FOMO. For example, sometimes while watching my friends' reels, I strongly feel like I should also make more reels otherwise I will be left out. I think FOMO is not bad as long as you know how to handle these urges.

The first thing is that I am not on social media to seek validation from anyone. That by itself gives me immunity from FOMO. Second thing is that I have a positive self esteem, so curated lifestyle display doesn't move me because I know that most of the things on social media are fake. Facebook has the most users that always want to oppress other users. X is more positive.

There were times that I I used to feel like others have passed me by based on what they post on social media. You see my mates posting family pictures when I am yet to get a man that is serious enough to engage me. All that stopped when I visited a popular person that always looks so happy on social media. And I got to realize that all what she posts is just for engagements. She is not even truly happy in her marriage. Since then, I don't get pressured by social media posts.
